Make sure your guitar is at full volume and than the unaffected dry signal is getting to the tone print pedal. You don’t want any distortion or delay messing up the digital signal. Also that the sound is up on your phone. It’s the magnetic signal from the phone speaker that gets picked up by your guitar pick-up, so make sure you’ve selected the correct pick-up (and that the volume and tone are on full)

I promise you, its not as hard as it may be. If I can finally get a grasp on it, I truly believe you can too. It really helps to find a teacher that you understand. Personally I watch Ben Eller on UA-cam, he's one of the best out there in my opinion. What helped me a bit was mapping out some of the notes on my fretboard. Knowing the notes of a scale is very helpful and will help get you started in grasping it. Although aside from just knowing the notes in the scale it's also important to know the intervals. Maybe start with learning the notes of a scale you want to learn. Like harmonic minor (which is where the phyrgian dominant mode exists). A mode exists within a scale but just starts and ends on a different note. Like harmonic minor (in the key of A for simplicity) goes: A-B-C-D-E-F-G# If you start on the 5th interval (the 5th note) of that A harmonic minor scale, you get: E-F-G#-A-B-C-D-E that's called the phrygian dominant mode (not to be confused with the "phrygian mode" from the major scale Phrygian dominant has that middle eastern/Egyptian sound, very exotic sounding. Phrygian dominant is called the 5th mode of the harmonic minor scale, 5th mode because it starts on the 5th note of harmonic minor. So again if you start in A harmonic minor, the 5th note would be that E, or E phrygian dominant. You can start with A harmonic minor for example and just map out the notes on your guitar. So harmonic minor in the key of A could start on the 5th fret of the low E string (in standard tuning that is) and so starting there on 5th fret low E, you can map out the notes A-B-C-D-E-F-G#-A You can start on that root note A and end on the root A an octave higher. You can do 3 notes per string if you want too. Or if you want to do E phrygian dominant you can do this starting on low E and ending on high E: E 0-1-4 A 0-2-3 D 0-2-3 G1-2-4 B 1-3 E 0-1-4 That gives us all of our notes E-F-G#-A-B-C-D-E On the B and high E strings you can even do B 1-3-5 (instead of 1-3) E 1-4 Because that 5th fret on the B string is an E note as well as the open high E string is obviously also an E note But whatever you play on the low E you can play on the high E Another position for E phrygian dominant is E 12-13-16 A 12-14-15 D 12-14-15 G 13-14 B 12-13-15 E 12-13-16 Again that takes us from E to E and I believe you can play that whole scale pattern in whichever key because regardless of the notes, it's intervallically the same. But what you can do is google image search E phrygian dominant for example and it will tell you where every note on the fretboard which falls under phrygian dominant in the key of E. That's very helpful Aside from just knowing the notes in the scale, you'll also need to know what chords work in that scale too. You can also find that online. Basic chord triad you start with the root, so using A harmonic minor, you have A, skip a note, choose that note and skip one more note and use that. So if you have A-B-C-D-E-F-G# You start with A, (skip B), use C, (skip D), use E You're left with the notes A-C-E which I believe is an A major chord. That's a basic triad (3 note chord). You can keep adding more notes with the skipping every other note method to create more complex chords. You can also fool around with the diminished scale. It's pretty simple. It's made up of major 3rds. Meaning whatever your root/starting note is all you have to do is go up 3 frets, and there's your next note in the diminished scale. So if you start on 3rd fret, next note (maj 3rd) would be 6th fret, then the 9th fret, 12th, 15th, etc. Every one of those notes is a major 3rd in diminished scale because they're all 3 frets apart from each other. A major third is also down one string and up one fret from the root. So if you are on 3rd fret low E as root, your 4th fret A string starts it again. What i mean is: E 3-6 A 4-7 D 5-8 G 6-9 B 8-11 E 9-12 B string you have to compensate by going up one more fret, just how the guitar is tuned. That's why itd be 8-11 and not 7-10 Scales can be played all on one string or you can stretch it across all strings. It's not as hard as it appears. If you watch some videos online it'll become a lot more clear.
